Description
The sky had been soupy with both humidity and dust, with no clear spot of sky to be found. I was not expecting a chance to capture the sunset, but I found a composition and set my camera up in Big Bend Ranch State Park along river road FM 170. My patient perseverance was rewarded, just as the sun slipped behind the mountains there was a break of the clouds near the horizon letting the sky burn with vibrant color. In the valley below you can see the serpentine band of green as the Rio Grande snakes along the United States (Texas) and Mexico (Chihuahua) border. Look closely, can you find the lone star? Hint: it's not in the sky. Taken March 12, 2021.
Honorable Mention in Landscape/Nature category for "The Lone Star" at the Texas Bank and Trust’s 40th Anniversary Photography Show and Exhibition, (Jurors: Kelli and Bob Phillips of Texas Country Reporter). The image will be part of the bank's 2023 calendar.
